Sugar was traded within the Middle East region till the Crusaders founded the “sweet salt” on their conquests. On their return in the 11^th century, Sugar was spread to Europe. Amazed with the exotic sweetened drinks and fruits found abroad, they created a demand when landed back home. By the 13^th century, Venice was the sugar capital of the world.
